Thornton Outing
7th August 2026
On Friday 7th August a great turnout of 22 Society members (13 full members and 9 supporter members) enjoyed a round of golf and a lovely meal courtesy of our hosts Thornton Golf Club. The recent good weather held and the course was in great condition. There was some impressive golf played with Iain Kennedy leading the way, winning the full members competition with a very impressive 39 Stableford points, playing off a handicap of 8! Scott Turner took the honours in the supporter member competition, winning with 32 points. To see the gallery of photos click here
The visit to Thornton was an opportunity for those who had not played there before to experience first hand the venue for the first ever Bugg-ease Scottish Parkinson's Open which we are planning for August 2027. The feedback from the members who attended was unanimously positive which I have summarised below:
The Course
"The course itself is interesting but not easy with the back nine in particular providing the variety needed and it is in a condition that everyone will enjoy."
"I thought the course was perfect for us. Courses like the Belfry and Slaley Hall are prestigious but are too difficult for the average PWP . The fairways and the greens were superb but I would have liked a little bit more sand in the bunkers."
"The course was in fine condition and had a good mix of easy walking holes and for those wanting a real challenge they will find it in the back 9."
"Course - Fabulous, tricky but suitable for PD Warriors"
"I thought everything was excellent (apart from the last 3 holes which ruined my card!!)"
"I feel the choice of venue was beyond good. The course was ideal, being flat and with very little course rough ( though I still managed to lose a new ball, I think its still up a tree! )"
The Catering
"The catering service was very well organised and friendly with the food of good quality too. Overall I thought the day to be excellent value for money. I have already suggested to my wife we come through to any Mixed Open if held next year."
"The cost was good value and the food was perfect."
"I felt with the subsidy it was excellent value and the food at my table was enjoyed by all as was the ambience in the clubhouse."
"Food - Lovely
Value - more than worth it."
"The staff in the clubhouse served up a lovely meal and coped very well."
